Nishan specialises in immigration and human rights law and appears regularly before the First Tier and Upper Tribunals, the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal where he is viewed as a powerful and compelling advocate.
He is a very experienced advocate, with over thirteen years experience in appearing before both the immigration and criminal courts ( his last criminal trial being a five handed false imprisonment, firearms trial at Southwark Crown Court, being led by Harendra de Silva QC of Argent Chambers).
Nishan continues to advise high net worth individuals from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East concerning immigration matters. He also closely works with the Japanese Commerce and Industry here in the UK and is a regular speaker at JETRO talks. He regularly assists in corporate immigration matters and is presently a consultant to a well known South East Asian airline.
Nishan is regarded as being a real “court advocate” in every respect and is well known in the human rights jurisdiction for his persuasive argument and sheer tenacity, and for his unusually high success rate. He is a specialist in judicial review, deportation and complicated human rights cases.
Prior to joining the Bar, he toured Sri Lanka researching and preparing human rights documentation for the Law and Society Trust in Colombo and worked as a legal assistant for the Overseas Doctors’ Association representing doctors in local tribunals and before the General Medical Council.
He recently appealed successfully to the Supreme Court against the deportation of a group of Sri Lankan nationals.
